Other Land

Other Land

Other Land is Sea Pea Films’ most recent documentary production.

It was produced, directed, filmed and edited by Alice Ward and has toured internationally.

“A pilgrimage is a devotional practice consisting of a prolonged journey toward a specific destination of significance. It is an inherently transient experience, removing the participant from his or her home environment and identity.”

‘Other Land’ follows the path of Vittoria Farmer, a young Australian surfer recently arrived in Donegal as she journeys through the raw landscape and history of the West of Ireland. This voyage will engage the senses in a unique and powerful way as Vittoria experiences the Atlantic Ocean, the wild and ever changing elements and the ancient essence of Ireland for the first time.

Other Land was a highly collaborative project bringing together musicians and artists in Ireland to help create a bespoke soundtrack and artwork for the film. It was produced, directed, filmed and edited by Alice Ward. The inspiration behind the film is embedded in the ancient roots of Ireland and the wonderment and mysticism that is present at many of the Irish surf spots.

Orri Mc Brearty was the composer and producer of the soundtrack. Chanele McGuinness wrote and sang the first song, ‘Let The Light In’.

‘Perpetual Party’ by Rachael Lavelle and ‘Carry My Song’ by Clare Sands and Susan O’Neill followed.

The artwork for the film was created by Ian Malone.

Supported by Surfdome, Nixon and Columbia.

The film won ‘Best Soundtrack’ at The Portuguese Surf Film Festival in 2022 and ‘Best Cinematography’ at The Bells Beach Surf Film Festival 2023. It has screened in New York, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and various locations across Ireland.
