ebb and flow
ebb and flow
Ebb and Flow was Sea Pea Films’ first short film which was supported by Creative Ireland.
It has toured internationally and features animation from renowned Irish contemporary artist Alice Maher.
Ebb and Flow features the experiences of three fearless females and their passion for surfing the waters off the west coast of Ireland. Filmed throughout 2019, Alice captures the mystical relationship these amazing women have with the power and magnitude of the Atlantic Ocean’s surf. She illustrates the grace and grit they bring to the sport, as well as the positive effects of cold water immersion, from an insightfully artistic perspective.
Ebb and Flow is a female led production which not only features the surf community on the west coast, but also shines a spotlight on its creative community.
Collaborating with renowned contemporary artist Alice Maher, Ebb and Flow, through animation brings the Irish Folklore tales of Selkies to life on the screen thereby adding further depth and dimension to the work.
For the film's sometimes haunting soundtrack Alice worked with the talented Sligo based musicians Jessie Solange Whitehead and local group The Hunter.
Ebb and Flow is a film produced, shot and edited by Alice Ward.
The Film has been selected to show in film festivals both in Ireland and internationally. Ebb and Flow was awarded best ‘Women in Surf’ film at the Portuguese Surf Film Festival.
